When you have two characters (and actors) like Sam and Dean that start the show off as young men, Sam was barely 22 and Dean was 26 it was essential that they bonded through the ‘On the Road’ ‘Buddy Cop’ scenario/format. Now, it isn’t going to work like that anymore. It CAN’T work like that anymore. These characters have experienced too much, they’ve bonded as much as they can possibly bond. They’ve died for each other and the world. They’ve made friendships and lost people who are irreplaceable.
And to take everything away from them, everything that they’ve come to rely on in the 7 years the show has been focusing on them (8 if you count Soulless Sam’s year) it just doesn’t work. That’s like throwing them back into 2005 in with nothing more than the clothes on their backs and their horrendous memories and they don’t have access to any of the things that make them feel safe and the Leviathans nipping at their heels. It can’t work and they won’t be able to function for long.
This show takes and takes and takes from everybody. You gotta throw us or the Winchesters a bone so we know that there’s some hope out there. Otherwise you know…I don’t know how many people are going to stick around for the payoff because it’s starting to look like it’s gonna be a really long time coming.
Also what the fuck. They see someone that’s able to kill(?) or at least subdue a Leviathan and they just let him go?! They get a lead and it’s just ‘thanks’. Seriously?
